The Getty: So Much More Than A Museum

The Getty Museum is one of our favourite places to visit in Los Angeles . I love everything about it, from the architecture with the white limestone and marble to the tram ride up the hill to the museum. There’s just a certain energy to the Getty that sings in my soul. I go there for inspiration and on days when I could really use a ‘lift’.

For those of you not from or familiar with Los Angeles, the Getty is so much more than just a museum. It is really more of a cultural venue for everything from live music and theater to family activities and there are even talks given to the public.

While the Getty does house a permanent collection of paintings, art, and sculpture, there is a constantly rotating roster of exhibits as well. Even if art is not your thing, at the risk of sounding redundant, there really is something for everybody here.

Situated atop a hill, the Getty has one of the best views in all of Los Angeles. There are many outside terraces where you can enjoy sunlight and incredible views of the city and California landscape. They also offer sweeping gardens and lush landscapes with many places to go and picnic. They provide guests with beige sun umbrellas, which can be found by the entrance/exit doors (to be used and returned when finished). Also, the food in the cafeteria is both local and fresh.

The best part of all, museum admission is free. Parking is $15 but it is covered and shaded from the sun.
